Hand, Upper Extremity and Microvascular Surgeon

Bio

Dr. Debkowska is a female hand orthopedic surgeon fellowship-trained in Hand, Upper Extremity and Microvascular surgery. She was born in Poland and moved to New Jersey when she was seven years old. Dr. Debkowska received her Bachelors of Science from The College of New Jersey, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. To honor her culture, she became the founder and president of the college’s first Polish Club. Dr. Debkowska continued her training at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School where she became the president of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. After completing her orthopedic residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Health, she did a year-long fellowship training in Hand, upper extremity & Microvascular surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York. Dr. Debkowska has published various research articles both for her clinical work and basic science research. She has also received multiple awards for her research podium presentations. Not only is Dr. Debkowska interested in making advancements in the medical field, but she is also the proud mother of two young children. For fun, Dr. Debkowska likes to travel, try new foods, and play tennis.

Dr. Debkowska specializes in treating musculoskeletal conditions with specialized training in the shoulderelbow, wrist and hand for children and adults. Her areas of expertise include microsurgical repair of soft tissue and nerve injuries, reconstructive hand surgery, arthroscopic surgery of the wrist and shoulder, arthritic conditions of the wrist and hands, treatment of Dupuytren’s disease, treatment of compressive neuropathies, tendon and ligament repair, tendon and nerve transfer, treatment of congenital hand conditions and fractures of the upper extremity. Dr. Debkowska is an expert at treating dupuytren disease with xiaflex injections, a medication that was created by her mentor Dr. Hurst as an alternative to extensive open surgical treatment. She also performs minimally invasive endoscopic carpal tunnel releases which minimizes scarring.

Dr. Debkowska’s philosophy has always been to listen to and treat her patients just as she would treat her family members. Dr. Debkowska is a firm believer in conservative treatment using the least invasive methods possible. She only recommends surgical treatment after considering all non-operative options. Dr. Debkowska wants you to know that when you come to see her, she will listen to your concerns and together create a treatment plan that best suits your needs. She encourages patients to ask questions about their care and be directly involved in the decision-making process.
