From Hesitation to Healing: Dawn’s Foot Surgery with Dr. Eric Beights

Foot Surgery Can Be An Intimidating Process – But The Results Can Be Life Changing.

Many patients delay foot surgery despite experiencing pain and limitations on a daily basis. Dawn’s story from diagnosis to recovery outlines that when conservative treatments no longer work for you, finding the right orthopedic care, can transform your quality of life for the long-term.

Living and Managing With Painful Foot Pain

Meet Dawn, a patient of Dr. Eric Beights who spent years living with painful foot discomfort—so much so that she could no longer wear shoes comfortably. Although she was hesitant to seek medical care, when she noticed the shape of her foot beginning to change – a tell tale sign that foot problems are worsening – she knew it was time to take action.

Choosing The Right Foot Surgeon

After doing her research through her insurance company and reading patient reviews online, Dawn chose Dr. Beights as her physician to take a deeper look at her foot condition. From the moment she booked her first appointment, Dawn felt at ease. The orthopedic staff at Seaview Orthopaedics welcomed her warmly, and when she met Dr. Beights, she immediately knew she was in good hands.

When he’s speaking to me, he speaks right to me. He doesn’t look up, look around, or dismiss what I have to say… he listens, and he took his time. He explained things thoroughly to me,” Dawn shared.

After consulting on what symptoms she was facing, analyzing the condition of her foot, and determining her diagnosis both her and Dr. Beights determined that surgery was the best option. Throughout the consultation, Dr. Beights made sure she understood every step of the process, and thanks to clear communication with Dr. Beights, the surgical scheduler, and the surgery center staff, Dawn felt fully prepared, and surprisingly calm heading into her procedure.

I wasn’t afraid at all!

Recovery and Rehabilitation After Foot Surgery

Her recovery went just as smoothly. After a week of medication followed by occasional Tylenol, Dawn transitioned from a foot cast and crutches to physical therapy. Day by day, she diligently worked through her rehabilitation and now continues her exercises at home to keep her foot strong.

Within just two weeks, Dawn was back to her job as a customer service representative,  making practical accommodations like scooting around the office and keeping her foot elevated when needed. Best of all, she’s back to wearing shoes comfortably, something that once seemed impossible prior to undergoing foot surgery.

Now, six months post-surgery, Dawn is back to doing the activities she loves, like bike riding with her family and staying active without pain holding her back.

I regret not picking up the phone faster. I let my fear hold me back,” she reflects.

Advice to Patients Considering Surgery

To patients who may be feeling the same hesitation, Dawn offers these pieces of heartfelt advice:

Don’t wait—just do it! The longer you wait, the longer you suffer.
I feel like I have my life back because of Dr. Beights and his team, and I’m really grateful.

We are so proud of Dawn for taking that important first step toward a better life. Thanks to her trust in Dr. Beights and the Seaview team, she’s back on her feet, back on her bike, and back to living life to the fullest.
