Regeneten Patch: The New Treatment for Rotator Cuff Tears

Dr. David Junkin of the Seaview Orthopaedics Sports Medicine team is pioneering the use of a breakthrough technology for patients suffering from partial thickness rotator cuff tears. The Regeneten Bio inductive Implant is a minimally invasive solution that goes beyond the traditional rotator cuff repair by promoting the growth of new tissue, helping to heal the injury more quickly and effectively.

What is the Regeneten Patch?

The Regeneten patch is a collagen-based bio inductive implant, about the size of a postage stamp, that is inserted arthroscopically through a small incision. The patch is placed directly on top of the rotator cuff, creating a conducive environment for healing. Once in place, the patch is secured with small anchors to ensure it stays positioned on the tendon. The implant induces new tissue growth, and over time, your body will begin to recognize the patch as tendon material, helping to thicken and heal the tear. Unlike traditional rotator cuff surgical methods, where the strength of the healing tendon relies primarily on the surgical technique rather than new tissue growth.

Benefits of the Regeneten Patch

There are several notable benefits to this innovative procedure:

  • Natural Healing: As a collagen-based implant, it promotes the body’s own tissue growth, leading to a more effective and natural recovery.
  • Minimally Invasive: The arthroscopic procedure reduces trauma, allowing for quicker rehabilitation and a faster return to daily activities.
  • Lower Re-tear Rates: Research indicates a reduction in the likelihood of re-tears, providing long-term benefits for tendon health.
  • Pain Relief and Improved Function: Patients report significant reductions in pain and improvements in shoulder function within a year, without the complications often associated with traditional implants.

Post-Surgery Recovery

Patients who receive the Regeneten patch will be provided with detailed post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth recovery. While you will need to wear a sling initially, you will be encouraged to begin light exercises on the same day as surgery. The goal is to be able to make a full return to activities within four months post-surgery.

A Look Into the Procedure with Dr. Junkin

Dr. Junkin’s Experience with the Regeneten Patch

Dr. Junkin has been using the Regeneten patch in his practice for over four years and has seen excellent results. Patients have been experiencing faster recoveries, with many returning to full activity by four months post-surgery. Dr. Junkin is pleased with how this cutting-edge technology has reduced rehabilitation time and helped his patients resume their daily activities much more quickly, and with less pain than with a traditional rotator cuff repair.

To determine if you may be a candidate for the Regeneten patch, we recommend scheduling an evaluation with a doctor. If you’re interested in learning more or booking an appointment, contact Seaview Orthopaedics today!
