Patient Story: Ted's Shoulder Surgery with Dr. Sunil Thacker

Shoulder surgery has the potential to significantly improve quality of life and restore functionality for those suffering from debilitating shoulder injuries or conditions. By addressing underlying issues and restoring damaged tissue, shoulder surgery enables patients to regain independence and re-engage in activities they once loved. From completing simple everyday tasks, to participating in sports, the benefits of successful shoulder surgery extend far beyond the operating room.

Meet Ted, retired police officer and patient of Dr. Sunil Thacker of the Seaview Orthopaedics Sports Medicine Team. After injuring his shoulder during a yoga session, Ted felt he could tough it out and work through the pain. Over time, the persistent overuse of his already injured shoulder took its toll, leaving him unable to utilize his shoulder and struggling to sleep at night. As an existing patient at Seaview, he had confidence in our physicians’ expertise and sought care after receiving high recommendations for Dr. Thacker. Upon his visit, it was determined that surgery was the best course of action.

Ted is currently four weeks post-op, and attends Seaview Physical therapy several times a week to aid him in regaining strength and mobility in his shoulder. After a long period of suffering, he now feels no pain, is sleeping soundly, and is excited to continue his progress and get back to activities. “I’m one of those guys who never really stops moving.” he says, sharing that he’s excited to get back to his work in construction. To patients who may have concerns about undergoing surgery, he gives these words of encouragement: “If you are in pain, don’t let fear of surgery stop you from doing it. Modern medicine is what it is- they know what they’re doing!”

If you are currently experiencing shoulder pain that is holding you back from your daily activities, our expert shoulder surgeons can offer guidance and treatment to get you back to living the life that you want.
