Robert’s Calcaneus Fracture Surgery: From Injury To Recovery

Meet Robert: A Patient Healing from a Calcaneus Fracture

Robert R., 66, is a construction manager and an active individual who enjoys skiing and riding his motorcycle. After a serious automobile accident, he sustained a Type 4 calcaneal fracture—a severe foot and ankle injury that shattered his heel bone into multiple pieces with significant displacement. The severity of the fracture left Robert unable to walk without pain, let alone participate in the activities he loves, like riding his motorcycle or skiing.

Which Surgery Did Robert Undergo?

Robert underwent a minimally invasive calcaneus fracture repair surgery performed by Dr. Aron Green. This orthopedic procedure is performed by making a small incision to access the fractured heel bone. Through this approach, Dr. Green was able to carefully realign and stabilize the shattered pieces of Robert’s calcaneus with precision, minimizing disruption to the surrounding tissues and promoting optimal healing.

How Did Robert Find the Right Orthopedic Care?

Robert was referred to Seaview Orthopaedics and Dr. Aron Green by a trusted friend with extensive knowledge of the medical field. Recognizing the severity of Robert’s fracture, his friend believed Dr. Green was the most qualified foot and ankle surgeon to handle his case.

Robert’s Experience Right After Calcaneal Fracture Surgery

With the advanced minimally invasive technique performed by Dr. Green, Robert's experience right after calcaneal fracture surgery was healing. He was able to return home the same day as his surgery, be placed in a cast and begin physical therapy shortly afterward, which helped to facilitate a smooth recovery.

Robert’s Experience Post Calcaneal Fracture Surgery

Following calcaneal fracture surgery, Robert progressed through several stages of recovery, starting with a cast, then transitioning to a boot, followed by a brace. He is now back to wearing regular shoes. Throughout the recovery process, Robert remained committed to attending physical therapy and worked diligently, even during painful moments, to regain his mobility. “My objective going into surgery was to do what the doctor told me. I wanted to come out of this as close to 100% as possible.” Robert’s determination and commitment to his recovery paid off, allowing him to return to the activities he loves, including golfing, skiing, and riding his motorcycle. Given the severity of his fracture, this is considered a highly successful outcome, one that not all patients are fortunate enough to experience. Robert is incredibly grateful to Dr. Green for his expertise and the exceptional care that made his recovery possible.
